Security has been heightened across the Kigezi sub-region ahead of the arrival of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, for his regional campaign tour.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, joint security forces comprising the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and Counter-Terrorism units have been deployed to maintain law and order and prevent any election-related violence.
Maate cautioned Kyagulanyi’s campaign team and supporters to strictly adhere to the officially approved campaign schedule and all security guidelines. He warned against acts of provocation or confrontation with security officers, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated.
He further assured residents of Kigezi that security agencies are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and orderly campaign period that respects the rights and safety of all citizens.
“We call for calm and cooperation from everyone. Security is ready to ensure that the campaigns are conducted peacefully and that the interests of all Kigezi residents are protected,” Maate said.
Kyagulanyi is expected to launch his Kigezi campaign tour today in Rukiga District, before heading to Kabale in the afternoon. Tomorrow, he is scheduled to hold rallies in Rubanda, Kisoro, Kanungu, and Rukungiri districts.
