15 Candidates Cleared to Contest Parliamentary Seats in Kamwenge District

By Ivan Mugisha

A total of 15 candidates out of the 35 who picked nomination forms have been successfully registered to contest for parliamentary seats in Kamwenge District, the Electoral Commission has confirmed.

The nomination exercise, held from October 22nd to 23rd, 2025, was officially concluded on Thursday. According to the Commission, eight candidates were nominated to contest for Kibale County, four for Kibale East, and three for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Kamwenge District.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, Kamwenge District Returning Officer George William Magezi said the majority of those who picked nomination forms turned up for the process. However, some aspirants failed to meet the required qualifications, while others did not appear at all.

Magezi cautioned nominated candidates against engaging in any form of early campaigns, noting that the EC will soon convene a joint meeting to agree on a harmonized campaign program to ensure fairness and order throughout the electoral period.
