Uganda Police Pass Out 1,910 Election Special Constables Ahead of Polls

The Uganda Police Force has passed out 1,910 Election Special Police Constables (ESPCs) at Kazo Secondary School, bolstering security preparations ahead of the forthcoming election period.

The constables were recruited on a three-month contractual basis from Kazo, Kiruhura and Ibanda districts to support election-related security operations. Of the total number, 564 were drawn from Kazo, 526 from Kiruhura, while 820 came from Ibanda District.

Speaking at the pass-out ceremony on Thursday, Kazo District Police Commander (DPC) SSP Joseph Nsabimana said the trainees underwent a joint training programme for the three districts and commended them for their discipline, dedication and readiness to serve.

 SSP Nsabimana emphasized the importance of professionalism, neutrality and respect for human rights during the election period, noting that the ESPCs will play a critical role in maintaining peace and order before, during and after the polls.

The Kazo District Returning Officer, Mr Basheija Charles, who witnessed the ceremony, applauded the skills demonstrated by the constables and reminded them of their responsibility to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

He urged the ESPCs to work closely with electoral officials and the community to ensure a peaceful, free and fair election.

The ceremony was attended by police officials from Kazo, Kiruhura and Ibanda districts, Rwizi Regional Police leadership and local leaders, highlighting the importance of coordinated security arrangements ahead of the elections.
