The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, has urged voters to stop demanding money from politicians and instead base their electoral choices on candidates’ manifestos and leadership abilities.
Speaking during a New Year homily, Bishop Sheldon warned that turning elections into money-driven contests undermines democracy and encourages poor leadership.
He cautioned voters against being swayed by politicians who distribute cash and other material inducements in exchange for votes, saying such practices weaken accountability and good governance.
The bishop emphasized that voters have a civic responsibility to critically examine candidates’ policies, values, and visions, noting that informed choices are key to electing leaders capable of serving the nation effectively.
