Residents of Kabale Ward in Kitagwenda Town Council are breathing a sigh of relief following the launch of rehabilitation works on the Katoma–Kyotamushana access road by district authorities.

The 12-kilometer road, which connects Kitagwenda Town Council to Mahyoro Sub-county, had gone over 15 years without major repairs, leaving it in a deplorable condition that hindered transport and trade.

According to Januario Kazooro, the LC1 Chairperson of Kyabatimbo Cell, the road had become nearly impassable, affecting the movement of goods and services.

During the launch held on Tuesday, Kitagwenda District Engineer Francis Timanywa announced that the rehabilitation works will take two months to complete.

Kitagwenda Town Council Chairperson Patrick Turyamureba noted that the poor road condition had negatively affected local agricultural prices. He also raised concerns over the lack of electricity in the area and called on the government to intervene.

Meanwhile, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) urged contractors and local leaders to ensure quality work, stressing the need for transparency and accountability throughout the project.
