The Uganda Police Force has intensified security operations in Rwampara District after violent clashes erupted in Rwenyaga Cell, Ryamiyonga Parish in Mwizi Sub-county, Rwampara East.

The unrest occurred last Thursday at around 10 p.m. when supporters of independent parliamentary candidate Charles Ngabirano allegedly attacked supporters of NRM flag bearer Julius Tusiime Karuhanga. The attack left two homes destroyed and heightened tensions in the area.

By Monday morning, security sources confirmed that police had deployed additional patrol units across the district. The patrol teams are currently stationed in Mwizi–Kabura Town Council and parts of Mwizi Sub-county, which were identified as the epicenter of last week’s violence.

Rwampara RDC Harriet Nakamya confirmed the reinforcement during an interview with Crooze FM, noting that the increased deployment is aimed at stabilizing the area and preventing further violence.

Rwampara has previously been identified as a hotspot for election-related unrest. In 2016, clashes between supporters of the then Rwampara County legislator and those backing Charles Ngabirano left several residents injured and others displaced.
