Police in Rubanda District have arrested a 35-year-old businessman, Laban Ndyamuhaki, in connection with the murder of 33-year-old lawrence Turyasingura, following a swift response by residents and security personnel.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Keru Village, Bigungiro Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county. Residents at Bigungiro Trading Centre grew suspicious after noticing blood droplets at the entrance of a bar owned by the suspect. The bar was found padlocked from the outside, while the back door was locked from inside.
Alarmed by the unusual circumstances, community members conducted a search around the premises and discovered a body lying under a hedge about three metres from the bar, covered with a blanket. Local leaders and police were immediately alerted.
A police team led by the Officer in Charge of Station, ASP Ahimbisibwe Melach Girigori, promptly responded to the scene. The area was secured, processed, and documented. The suspect was arrested while hiding inside his locked bar.
During the operation, police recovered blood-stained clothes believed to belong to the suspect, along with a panga, knife, and stick, which were taken as exhibits. Community policing was conducted at the scene to calm residents and reassure the public.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue to establish the motive behind the killing.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, commended the vigilance and cooperation of the community, noting that timely reporting and collaboration played a key role in the swift arrest of the suspect.
