President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has given the green light for the establishment of a new army barracks in Kamwenge District, a strategic move intended to boost security and curb threats posed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels operating in surrounding areas.
The announcement came during a campaign rally on Monday at Kyabenda Primary School playground in Kahunge Town Council, where the President addressed residents and local leaders.
The decision follows an appeal by the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, who urged the President to deploy a permanent military presence to protect communities especially those living near forested and hard-to-reach zones where suspected ADF elements have been reported.
Museveni directed local leaders to immediately identify and secure suitable land for the construction of the barracks, emphasizing that a stable and well-protected region is essential for development, investment, and the safety of civilians.
The establishment of the barracks is expected to reassure residents, strengthen intelligence operations, and provide rapid response capabilities in an area that has recently recorded suspected rebel movements.
