Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament, Hon. Eddie Kwizera, has urged Kisoro Municipal authorities to shift focus from the long-delayed Matip Market project and instead prioritize delivering essential services that directly benefit local residents.
Hon. Kwizera made the remarks over the weekend during a feasibility study tour conducted alongside municipal officials.
The delegation visited Gatimba Market, the New Park, and the Old Market to assess conditions and engage with traders on the ground.
During discussions, vendors expressed frustration over poor working conditions—most notably, having to operate in open spaces without proper shelters, and the lack of basic health facilities in the markets.
Municipal authorities acknowledged these challenges, attributing many of them to the stalled Matip Market construction, which they said has disrupted efforts to streamline service delivery and market organization.
However, Hon. Kwizera dismissed these justifications, stressing that the delay should not be used as an excuse for inaction.
The MP emphasized the need for practical, immediate interventions and urged for greater cooperation among local leaders to ensure essential services are not held hostage by pending infrastructure projects.
Kisoro Municipality Mayor, Richard Ndyana, welcomed Kwizera’s initiative and praised his hands-on approach. He called on the public to remain patient, noting that long-awaited development programs are progressing, albeit slowly.
In response to the MP’s concerns, Deputy Town Clerk Moses Nteziyaremye pledged action. He announced plans to begin grading and leveling works at both Gatimba and Old Markets as part of immediate efforts to improve trading conditions and restore confidence among vendors.
As pressure mounts, all eyes are now on Kisoro’s municipal leadership to demonstrate commitment to service delivery, even as major projects like Matip Market remain incomplete.
