Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Students Affairs at Uganda Christian University.
The suspect has been identified as Dak Hussein Tawaiko, a former house help to the deceased. His arrest was confirmed by Recheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
According to police, Tawaiko was smoked out of his hideout in Budaka District, where he was found in possession of Tumwebaze’s personal property, a key piece of evidence linking him to the murder.
Investigations indicate that Tumwebaze was strangled in the early hours of February 11, 2026, at around 2:00am, at her residence in Gwafu West Village, Seeta Ward, Goma Division, Mukono District.
Police say a houseboy who was in the home noticed an unknown man inside Tumwebaze’s bedroom, wearing the deceased’s jeans and stockings. The suspect reportedly fled the scene shortly after, carrying a laptop bag belonging to Tumwebaze.
The houseboy, together with the children, later checked on their mother and found her unresponsive in bed. She was rushed to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Tumwebaze was laid to rest on Sunday at her home in Rubaya Kashari, Mbarara District, as investigations into the murder continue.
