Former National Unity Platform (NUP) Kisoro District Chairperson, Sibomana Laban, is facing serious allegations of staging his own abduction in an alleged attempt to solicit compensation and medical allowances from the party’s leadership.
The controversy emerged following a press conference held at Bamboo Gardens in Kisoro Municipality on Thursday, where Sibomana claimed he was abducted on May 5 by unidentified security personnel from his home in Kamonyi Ward, Northern Division.
He alleged that he later regained consciousness in Mbarara, suffering from severe injuries and missing UGX 3.6 million along with important party documents.
Sibomana expressed frustration with the NUP leadership, accusing them of abandoning him and failing to cover his medical bills.
However, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya has dismissed the allegations.
In a phone interview, Rubongoya revealed that Sibomana had recently visited the party’s headquarters in Kamwokya, where a medical scan was arranged for him. The scan reportedly showed no serious injuries.
Rubongoya also noted that Sibomana received UGX 230,000 as transport reimbursement.
