The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially launched the nomination process for individuals seeking leadership positions under Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the village level.

The SIG categories include the elderly, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) — groups constitutionally recognized for special representation in governance.

The nomination exercise began on June 2, 2025, and will run until June 10, 2025.

During this period, eligible individuals may submit nomination papers to contest for leadership roles in their respective villages under the SIG framework.

According to the EC’s roadmap:

A voter identification and verification exercise will follow from June 12 to June 14, 2025.

Village-level elections for SIG leaders will then be held on June 16, 2025.

Speaking on the process, EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi emphasized the need for all aspiring candidates to strictly adhere to the nomination guidelines.

He also urged Electoral Commission officials to carry out their duties fairly and diligently, warning against the unjust disqualification of eligible candidates.
