The Mbarara City Woman Member of Parliament, Ritah Atukwatsa Bwahiika, has called on security agencies to remain neutral as the country draws closer to polling day.
Speaking to our reporter, Atukwatsa expressed concern over reports that some candidates are allegedly intimidating voters.
She said there are individuals moving around threatening voters with arrest if they fail to vote for certain candidates.
Atukwatsa urged both state and private security personnel to act professionally and within the law, emphasizing that their role is to protect voters and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
She further alleged that some private security companies are being hired to threaten and assault voters on polling day, warning that such practices could undermine the credibility of the elections.
The legislator also appealed to the Electoral Commission and other relevant authorities to take action against all forms of voter intimidation, noting that free and fair elections can only be achieved when citizens are able to vote without fear.
