National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has said his bid for the presidency is driven by the desire to represent the current generation and promote leadership that rises above tribal divisions.

Speaking during a campaign rally at Rubindi Playground in Rubindi Ruhumba Town Council, Mbarara District, on Thursday, Kyagulanyi said Uganda has for decades been divided along ethnic lines, a challenge he pledged to confront if elected in the forthcoming polls.

He noted that tribal sentiments have shaped the country’s politics for nearly 40 years, vowing that his administration would prioritise national unity, equal opportunity, and inclusive governance for all Ugandans.

Kyagulanyi also called on the youth to remain resolute and actively participate in shaping their future, urging them to turn their numbers and enthusiasm into votes by supporting leaders with a clear vision to address the country’s challenges.

It should be recalled that Kyagulanyi’s previous campaign trail in Mbarara District was disrupted in November last year when security agencies blocked him at the 10 Miles area as he headed to the district after concluding campaigns in Mbarara City.

The confrontation resulted in a scuffle between his supporters and security personnel, during which at least 38 supporters were arrested.
