Candidates contesting for Local Council I (LC1) chairperson positions in Mbarara City have adopted door-to-door campaigns following the official start of village election campaigns across Uganda.
The candidates say the approach allows them to directly engage voters after the Electoral Commission banned campaign processions and convoys during the election period.
Boma Cell candidate Fred Turyakiira Kabango says he will use door-to-door campaigns to explain his manifesto, promising to improve security through residential identification cards. In Lugazi Cell, candidate Proscovia Kagwiisagye says she will hold evening campaigns and prioritise security if elected.
Meanwhile, Eric William Ganafa, the 40-year serving LC1 chairperson for Katete Central Cell, is seeking another term and has pledged to continue addressing land disputes and strengthening community security.
LC1 campaigns started on July 20, 2026, and will run until July 27, ahead of village elections.
