Police in Rubanda District are investigating two separate fatal road accidents that claimed the lives of two boda boda riders within hours of each other along the Kabale–Kisoro Highway.
In the first incident, an unidentified male rider died instantly after reportedly losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a eucalyptus tree at Rwabinyindo Village in Rubanda Town Council at around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday. His body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending identification.
In the second accident, 28-year-old Tumwesigye Vianne, a resident of Mivune Village, died on Monday evening after his motorcycle rammed into the rear of an Isuzu bus at Hisensero Village in Muko Sub-county. Police say excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incidents and said investigations are ongoing. The accidents have renewed concerns about speeding and road safety among boda boda riders using the busy highway.
