Mbarara city health department has received 171,750 insecticide treated mosquito nets for free distribution to residents amid warnings against their misuse.

Receiving the consignment from the ministry of health on Thursday, Dorcus Twinabaitu the city health focal person said preparations for distribution had been completed.

She added that the city received 3435 bales each containing 50 insecticide treated mosquito net and assured residents that the distribution would target the rightful beneficiaries.

However, the Mbarara city south deputy RCC, Gerald Tukamuheebwa warned, that the misuse of the mosquito nets could undermine the government efforts to fight malaria.

He cautioned that government would be rendered futile if the mosquito nets were diverted for other purposes.

In his remarks, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi the Mbarara city mayor reiterated his call to beneficiaries to avoid misusing mosquito nets for activities such as fishing and poultry rearing.
