The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has launched a four-day teacher training program aimed at equipping educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement Uganda’s new A-Level curriculum.
The training, which began on Monday at Kibubura Girls’ School in Ibanda District, is targeting Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) teachers from the districts of Ibanda, Kazo, and Kitagwenda.
It is part of a broader national initiative to support the successful rollout of the updated curriculum introduced earlier this year.
Agaba Joseph Jude, a Curriculum Specialist at NCDC, said the program is designed to familiarize teachers with significant changes in the curriculum, including revised content, modernized assessment techniques, and innovative teaching methodologies.
Each participating school was asked to nominate five teachers to attend the sessions.
Agaba emphasized that the initiative aims to build a team of curriculum champions who will lead implementation efforts in their respective schools and mentor fellow educators.
“The idea is to create a ripple effect. Once these teachers return to their schools, they’ll spearhead the adoption of the new curriculum, ensuring that all students benefit from improved teaching practices,” Agaba said.
The training will conclude on Thursday and is one of many regional sessions being held across the country as part of NCDC’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and effective nationwide implementation of the new A-Level curriculum.
