World faces hunger as Plant fertilising insects face extinction
Scientists have warned that a large number of bees that fertilise plants face extinction because of various activities being carried out by humans.
The College of African Wildlife Management head at the University of Dares Salaam, Jafari Kideghesho told a meeting of Tanzanian bee experts that the insects are being threatened, and called upon governments in Africa to protect the bees.
Kideghesho explains that environmental destruction including the use of industrial chemical agriculture by human beings, is largely contributing to the extinction of the bees, especially in Africa.
According to him, when such bees get extinct, the world will face hunger as these are the insects that fertilise food and cash crops.
