We Were Beaten and Threatened – Mbarara Voters
AINOMUGISHA AARON.
Different voters around the city of Mbarara have revealed that they were beaten and threatened during the most recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections especially the elections for division mayors conducted on September 14, 2020.
In Mbarara North division where Kakiika NRM chairman Benon Mugume lost to Gumisiriza Kyabwisho in the mayoral NRM flag-bearer race, voters allege that Kyabwisho’s supporters hit their doors at night though Kyabwisho refuted the allegations.
Kyabwisho Gumisiriza garnered 12,389 votes while Benon obtained 11,791 votes.
Mugume and his supporters yesterday stormed NRM offices Boma Kamukuzi to submit his complaint where they claimed that he was beaten in front of police on the polling day besides other irregularities like ferrying in voters from different polling stations to vote illegally.
Relatedly, Jomo Mugabi won the NRM flag-bearer race for Mbarara south division after he polled 21,739 votes against Rashid Mukasa who obtained 9,298 votes and Umoja Kenneth who got 3,084 votes.
