Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to exhume bodies at Mbarara cemetery
The district Khaadh of Mbarara under Ankole-Kigezi region, Sheikh Abdul Mukwaya has refuted claims that the cemetery belonging to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) at mile 2 along Mbarara-Masaka road in Mbarara city has been sold to individuals.
This follows seeming tension after the Tabliq sect accused UMSC of allegedly selling off the cemetery prompting Shk Mukwaya to advise them that this is none of their business and UMSC will soon start massive exhumation of these bodies and bury them in the right place where others are if it gets money to conduct this exercise and court clearance or people can take them to their homes for burial.
The Muslim Council discovered that some people were buried in a wrong place that is supposed to be a commercial plot next to the right cemetery that has been fenced off with bricks.
The whole land owned by UMSC consists 5 plots; 64, 66 (commercial plots being used), 68 that is being claimed by businessman Tusu of Tusu fuel station and the matter is in court since 2016 as UMSC tries to recover it because it was sold to him by previous Mbarara Muslim leadership, 62 & 58 that have been divided into two with one as the right cemetery, and the one where bodies are being exhumed that was meant to be a commercial plot but bodies were erroneously buried there so they will be buried in the right and fenced cemetery.
‘We call upon whoever buried their persons in the commercial plot to contact us or come with police letter, court letter and details of the deceased so that we can exhume these bodied,’ Mukwaya added.
The cemetery was donated by an individual and it is believed to have been in use since or before 1912,according to our deep investigations.
