Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) appeals to government to set up a Coffee Research Trust Fund to strengthen the research system and Promote value addition processes at all stages of the coffee value chain.
The Uganda Coffee Development Authority Managing Director, Emmanuel Iyamulemye Niyibigira says the research fund will help the authority to respond effectively to both national and international market requirements and opportunities.
He adds that Uganda has the potential to become a leading producer of high quality and internationally competitive coffee through the adoption of good agronomic practices at farm level.
This during a familiarization tour of the new members of the parliamentary committee on Agriculture at the National Coffee Research Institute (NaCORI) Kituza-Mukono.
For her part, the new chairperson of the parliamentary committee on Agriculture also Abim woman member of parliament Janet Grace Akech Okori-Moe expresses concern over failure by a section of Ugandans to embrace coffee growing, which she says can drive many out of poverty.
