Teso MPs To Sue Landlords
A section of Members of Parliament from Teso sub region are considering a lawsuit against landlords who last week petitioned the Ministry of Local Government to delay the creation of Soroti city for more ten years saying the changes are likely to distort their way of life.
Last month, the Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi sought approval from Parliament to adjust the date of operation for the three cities, in order for them not to miss out on representation since they will come into effect just after the elections.
The petitioners argue that the creation of Soroti is not cognizant of the COVID-19 epidemic and the wars that Teso has undergone adding that instead, the elevation disempowers the common man and favors the rich.
Now, the Soroti Municipality MP, Edmund Herbert Ariko says the petitioners tainted the image of Teso land by attempting to block the creation of the city that is in preparations to be inaugurated as a city on August 10th.
