Top seed Serena Williams suffered a shocking second set against Anabel Medina Garrigues but came through to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open.

American Williams took the first set 6-3 but slumped 0-6 in the second stanza against Spain’s Medina Garrigues.
It was the first time she has been ‘bagelled’ in five years – and she was a break down in the decider at 2-4.
However the 15-times Grand Slam champion fought back to edge it 7-5.
