Teacher’s day turned into a campaign platform in Kabale
The celebrations for Kabale District Teachers Day held at Kabale primary school in Kabale municipality were on Saturday 10 turned into a campaign platform for people who have shown interest for the municipality member of parliament and the district woman member of parliament.
During the cerebrations, the Kabale National Resistance Movement-NRM party Youth League chairperson Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha and the retired commander of the engineering Brigade in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Major General Timothy Sabiiti Mutebile used the platform to openly declare their intentions to contest for the Kabale Municipality parliamentary seat.
On the same occasion, Enid Origumisiriza, a retired secondary teacher and Everline Tugumisirize Binamaryo, from Kitohwa parish in Kaharo Sub County also used the same platform to declare their intentions to contest for the Kabale district parliamentary seat.
Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha who was the first to speak revealed that the country needs leaders who are still young and energetic.
Major General Mutebile told the told the congregation that he will resigned from his position in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces in order to contest for the parliamentary seat. He explained that he has served as a public servant for a long time and wants to join politics and serve the people of Kabale Municipality.
Enid Origumisiriza, also commended the Kabale woman Member of Parliament Hon. Catherine Ndamira Atwakire for what she has done but also requested the public to stand down for her.
Everline Tugumisirize also revealed that ounce the teachers support her, she will draft a bill to parliament so that they have one to represent their views in parliament like other professions.
This year’s cerebrations will be held under the theme “Young Teachers: The Future of a Profession.”
