Taxes on OTT to be reviewed
The ministry of ICT has proposes that taxes on broadband internet and OTT should be reviewed to facilitate dissemination of information by government as well as improve e-services and e-commerce.
The proposal was put forward by the state minister for ICT Peter Ogwang while interfacing with Parliament’s committee on National Economy which is currently scrutinizing the impact of COVID 19 on the economy.
Ogwang notes that domestic taxes should be reviewed to make mobile phones, computers, radios and TV’s affordable to citizens.
The minister further recommended that the national broadcaster UBC be allocated more funds to provide free to air digital broadcasting infrastructure in order to facilitate the forthcoming scientific elections.
