Student hangs self over UCE results
Police in Otuke district are investigating circumstances under which a 23-year-old senior four leaver reportedly hanged herself on Saturday.
According to a police detective investigating the matter, Sergeant Albino Ogwang, the deceased identified as Joan Abua of Akongo village, Arwot Ongo parish, Okwang Sub County and daughter of Washington Oceng of Pedi Cungkal, failed the recently released Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams which prompted her to take her own life.
According to family members, this was the fourth time the deceased sat her UCE exams.
Her body was found at around 10:00am on Sunday, hanging on a nearby tree next to their home.
Family sources added that she had had an argument with her brother who was responsible for paying her fees over her performance. The brother had reportedly advised her to repeat S.4 for the fifth time or go for vocational studies.
