Speaker Kadaga directs Finance Ministry to update Parliament on Bank of Uganda currency printing saga as MPs propose a structural overhaul.
The Speaker of Ugandan Parliament Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has directed the Finance Ministry to update Parliament on the Bank of Uganda investigations regarding the printing of excess money in mid July 2019.
This was after the minister of planning David Bahati told parliament that investigation into this case is still ongoing.
Legislators who include Bugiri municipality MP Assuman Basalirwa and Bugweri county MP Abdul katuntu on Tuesday,June 25,2019 said that they are dissatisfied with government’s response on the way the central bank is being run.
They said that the excess printed of money compromises credibility of the currency and the running of Bank of Uganda.
Katuntu proposed a structural overhaul of Bank of Uganda and the government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa clashed with minister Bahati over pleading for more time on investigations the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House
Nankabirwa said that a lot of funds is being wasted on unending investigations
The opposition whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that clash between the two ministers is a testimony that bank of Uganda is losing credibility at government watch.
This prompted the speaker to call for a probe report into the matter by mid July.
