Sexual Abuse of Young Girls on the Rise
Children’s rights’ activists in Kasese district have decried the increased sexual abuse of young girls in rural communities of Kasese by old men who are taking advantage of the lockdown and closure of schools.
Annet Kobusinge, a project officer of Ending Violence against Women and Girls at UGANET Kasese office says most young girls have fallen victims of sexual violence due to over redundancy at home and loitering in trading centers.
She says the situation is worsened by parents who have neglected their parental responsibility of looking after their children at home.
John Bosco Onyango, a community activist at Katunguru landing site says some parents conceal cases of defilement and early pregnancies against their children due to stigma.
