Disagreements over NRM primaries divide the party leadership
By Aaron Ainomugisha.
Disagreements over the outcome of the recent NRM primaries threaten the party’s cohesion.
Leaders in the districts of Sembabule, Kazo, Kiruhura, Ibanda, Ntungamo, Isingiro, Bushenyi are still struggling to resolve them.
In Kazo, the NRM chairman, Wilson Nkeija has refuted reports that the district party Executive Committee fueled rigging during the primaries that were characterized by chaos and anger.
Nkeija instead blames the mess on some candidates for the confusion that saw Jennifer Rwaburibate Muheesi declared District Woman MP flag bearer, while her closest challenger Molly Kamukama was nominated by the Electoral Commission as independent candidate for the 2021 race.
He adds that although efforts are being made to resolve the sticking issues, the involvement of the First family and other senior government officials in some of the cases like in Sembabule remains a major hindrance to mediation.
