Self-Styled Ankore King Downplays Mbarara High Court Verdict
The self-styled Ankore king Umar Asiimwe Rubambansi has downplayed Mbarara high court judge Gordon Musiime’s verdict given on Thursday, August 27,2020 nullifying his powers and restraining him from posing as a king.
A one Phillip Musiime through his lawyers of Kato Frank and company advocates in 2019 filed a case accusing Asiimwe of self-styling and holding unlawful coronation ceremony yet he was not a legitimate king of Ankole since 2016 and he built a palace in Itaaba Kyabanyoro Rwampara .
In the absence of lawyers representing both sides; Frank Kato and co. advocates for Phillip and Tusubira and co. advocates for Asiimwe, the judge also declared the coronation by the defendant as wrongful and contrary to Article 246 (1) & (6) of the Constitution but Asiimwe has called for calmness amongst his followers vowing to continue with activities to restore the kingdom.
President Museveni restored kingdoms in 1993 after the 1967 abolition by Obote but Ankore has never been officially restored.
