Self-Proclaimed Ankole King in Critical condition after being assaulted by ‘family members’
The self proclaimed Ankole King, Umar Rubambansi Ntare Ntare VI is still in a bad health condition, after being assaulted by people believed to be family members.
According to sources, Rubambansi organised an end of year party at his Itaba palace in Rwampara on december 31, but it turned violent after he reportedly disagreed with his family members including his father,Igumira Kitobobo, for yet to be known reasons.
It is alleged that in the fight, the self-proclaimed king almost lost his eye, before police rushed from the scene and took him to Mbarara referal hospital, before the relatives prefered to shift him to Mayanja memorial hospital, where he is currently admitted in critical condition.
Sources from police further reveal that the fight was triggered by the reports that the Spokesperson of the ‘Rubambansi led Kingdom’, Max Muhumuza had received money from president Museveni.
The Leadership of the kingdom responded by dismissing Muhumuza from his position, days before the assault took place. It is alleged that Muhumuza could have been an accomlice in this assault.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokeserson says so far, no one has opened a case of assault at police, ad therefore are restrained from entering into the matter until such happens.
Efforts to get a comment from family members were futile, as family members attending to him at the hospital declined to speak to the media.
Who is Rubambansi?
Prince Umar Asiimwe Ntare VI Rubambasi is the Prince of Nkore Kindom. He is a great grandson of Omugabe Ntare V who had other brothers among them Igumira and Kahitsi.
Upon the demise of Ntare V, there was succession wars and attempts to crown Kahitsi as the next king failed because the royal drums rejected him.
This came in because Nkabisigarira had been for internal reasons denied as a son to Ntare V. Later Kahaya II who was nephew of Ntare V was crowned the next king of Nkore.
The of genealogy of Prince Asiimwe is as follows; Ntare V produced Nkabisigarira, Nkabisigarira produced Murengeera , Murengeera produced Byabagambi, Byabagambi produced Rwitahoona, Rwitahoona produced Nkabisigarira II, Nkabisigarira II produced Igumira Kitobobo, who is the father of Prince Asiimwe Umar.
In february this year, Rubambansi was charged together with four others and remanded to Mbarara central prison, on charges of forming and being members of unlawful society, promoting sectarianism, inciting violence and disobeying lawful orders.
Apparently, there are mediation talks ongoing between the two groups claiming the Ankole Kingship, and are slated to end next month, for court to continue with the case.
