Sacked officials won’t affect 2021 polls – Byabakama
The Electoral Commission has assured the public that the eight senior officials who have left the institution will not affect the credibility of the forthcoming elections.
This comes days after eight officials including Secretary to the Commission Sam Rwakojo, Spokesperson Jotham Taremwa, Godfrey Wanyoto, Head of Procurement among others were allegedly sacked in relation to the irregularities in the procurement and printing of ballot papers.
However, the Commission Chairperson, Simon Byabakama dismisses reports that he was ordered by President Museveni to sack the eight over a ballot papers procurement saga.
He revealed that the officials in question had tendered in their early retirement letters to the commission, allaying fears that their absence will affect the 2021 polls with the process of identifying possible replacements in the shortest time possible ongoing.
