Rwanda is not sincere – Ugandan authorities.
Despite the Rwanda Revenue Authority announcing that the Uganda-Rwanda
border of Katuna/Gatuna border in Kabale will be open for heavy trucks movement from
yesterday 10th June 2019, to 22nd June 2019, no heavy truck had crossed
the border by 2:00pm.
According to an announcement signed by the Commissioner General Rwanda Revenue Authority Pascal Bizimana Ruganintwali dated 7th June 2019, the partial opening that strted
today is aimed at carrying out trials for heavy trucks movement on
Gatuna One Stop Border Post and to assess the operationalization of
the constructed works and equipment before the reception of works.
Yesterday from 10:00am to
2:00pm, only one heavy truck parking in the Rwandan side, but small
cars were seen coming from Rwanda entering Uganda.

Mizumoto who also visited the border accompanied by Katuna town
council leaders led by the Katuna Town Council LC3 chairman Nelson
Nshangabasheija said that they were filled with happiness after they
saw a letter signed by Ruganintwali.
On 27th February 2019, Rwandan officials closed its borders, to
purportedly expedite the construction of the single customs post at
Gatuna border and advised truck drivers destined to Kigali to use
Kagitumba border via Mirama Hills.
Rwanda accuses Uganda for illegally detaining Rwandese picked from different parts in Kigezi, Ankole and Central Uganda on allegations of being Rwandan Spies.
“They were not sincere. Those issues should have been raised to the ministry of foreign affairs.”
“If they have legal reasons for those they say are detained in Uganda, let them provide us with information about their whereabouts and we follow up.”Ugandan Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.
Since February, over 2 Rwandese have been arrested in Uganda.
