Rubirizi UPDF soldier shoots three dead
A Uganda People’s Defense Force-UPDF attached to 27th battalion in Rubirizi district western Uganda is on the run after shooting three people dead and critically injuring three in Nkondo village Karagara parish Ryeru sub county Bunyaruguru over a reason that is being investigated by authorities.
Rubirizi District Police Commander-DPC Abel Muwonge has confirmed that the incident occurred yesterday at around 1am when the suspect identified as Mutahaire Godson AX017942 picked his gun and started firing bullets in the air and also attacked people’s homes unnecessarily.
The deceased include Conrad Mayi 22, Oliver Ninsiima 26, members of the same family and residents of Nkondo Village Karagara Parish Ryeru sub county and a 50-year-old Scoviah Kazaire a resident of Mubanda village Ryeru sub county.
Jane Scoviah Asiimwe,36, a sister to Mayi and Ninsiima said the soldier came at around 1am and wanted to enter their house but they refused which prompted the soldier to start shooting.
Mourene Kyakusimire, Shirani Ahimbisibwe, and Rauman Maweje all of the same family [as Asiimwe], are critically injured and admitted at Kampala International University-KIU and Mbarara regional referral hospital after sustaining bullet wounds on the skull and abdomen.
