Public Accounts Committee shocked by Poor Accountability in Western Uganda Districts, Mbarara officials face arrest.
Western Uganda – The parliamentary public accounts committee (PAC) has issued warrants of arrest to all contract committees’ officials of Mbarara district over illegal award of contracts.
The committee chair Jonathan Odur says Mbarara senior procurement officer Dinah Mwije misled the contract committees in awarding the contract worth more than 380 million shillings by advising the committees to ignore the trade licensees, VAT registration, financial statement of the companies which are initial requirement for the award of contract.
It was on this basis that Odur was forced to order for Dinah’s arrest for Criminal Investigations Directorate to interrogate her, and other summons were issued to all the contractors who will appear in Kampala to answer quarries.
Contract awarding committee officials have been ordered to appear too, and those who hesitate will be picked by police.
Gilbert Olunya, the PAC vice chairperson said that the major challenge that was found in the districts of all western region are the poor accountability of road funds at the sub-county , district and municipality levels.
Olunya who is also the Member of Parliament for Kilak south county in Amuru district noted that they are going to present the findings to the parliament for action.
