Prison Warder Held For Murder in Kanungu district.
Western Uganda – Police in Kanungu district Kigezi sub-region are holding a prison warder on charges of murder.
The suspect is said to have shot a relative to a suspect who had escaped from lawful custody.
It is alleged that Victor Satya a staff of Kanungu prisons had on Saturday gone to Rwembogo cell, Kiringa parish, Kambuga Sub county in Kanungu District in the company of Principal officer Obilia, Corporal Ronald Mwesigwa and Asistant supritendent of prisons Raphael Ogwal to effect an arrest of one Nasasira Gilbert (18)who had escaped from Kanungu prison after being convicted for two years in 2017 on charges of causing grievous harm.
After his arrest ,his family members resisted where by his biological brother one Bannet Musika (22 ) brought a panga which they were using for cutting logs and attempted to cut Raphael Ogwal but he managed to dodge it.
The deceased immediately ascended to Satya who was shooting in the air to scare away other members who had turned rowdy but ended up shooting the deceased near the left arm on the chest after coming close to him.
The victim was rushed to Kambuga hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly on arrival.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate told our reporter that police moved in and visited the scene of crime before arresting the suspect.
He adds that the rifle Ak 47 No 56-5810839 with 22 rounds of ammunition was recovered and exhibited.
