Presidential Candidate Bobi Wine suspends campaigns over police brutality
The National Unity Platform-NUP presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Bobi Wine has today, Tuesday, December 1,2020 suspended his campaigns until tomorrow over what he describes as police and security agencies brutality.
Earlier today, he was set to hold rallies in Kayunga district but was blocked by police and two people were seriously injured during the stand-off, currently admitted at Mulago national referral hospital for medical attention.
The victims include his producer Don Magic and a counter terrorism police officer Wilfred Kato who is part of his security detail.
After the scenario, Bobi then proceeded to Jinja city eastern Uganda where he was supposed to have his last rally of the day but police again blocked him at the Nile Bridge, fired bullets at his car tyres, and other ‘brutal’ acts.
The angered Kyagulanyi was prompted to call off his campaign until he meets the electoral commission tomorrow to discuss the matter.
Parliamentary and Presidential campaigns will end on January 12, and then voting on January 14, 2021.
