President Museveni to be nominated today as opposition uncertainty still looms
President Museveni will today be nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer for the 2021 elections.
The president’s press secretary Don Wanyama says he will also be nominated as the national chairman for the NRM party at 11am.
According to the NRM roadmap, today is the deadline for nomination of the NRM presidential and national chairman aspirants.
The NRM electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi on Tuesday last week declared President Museveni the sole candidate for the presidential race and for the party’s national chairperson.
Odoi said president Museveni is the sole candidate for the party national chairperson because John Ssimbwa who had picked nomination forms for this same position failed to pay the requisite Shs20m.
Ssimbwa however, has threatened to challenge this position in court.
Meanwhile within the opposition uncertainty still looms. The Forum for Democratic Change FDC party is stuck with a decision on who should hold the party’s presidential flag in the forthcoming elections.
The party is reportedly considering three possible candidates to carry its flag after their attempt to persuade Dr. Kiiza Besigye for the same failed to yield fruit.
The three are Kampala lord mayor, Erias Lukwago, the current party president Patrick Amuriat and its Secretary General Nandala Mafabi.
