President Museveni orders fresh NRM elections in 84 villages of Nyabushozi
President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni has ordered that fresh National Resistance Movement – NRM primary elections be held in 84 villages of Nyabushozi county in Kiruhura district that were characterized by violence and other irregularities.
Museveni who is the NRM national party chairman made the orders during the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting at State House Entebbe yesterday Thursday,October 8,2020 following public outcry as loser Wilson Kajwengye accuses incumbent Col. (RTD) Fred Mwesigye of having a hand in the irregularities.
Mwesigye was declared the winner with 54,996 votes yet the total vote count for the district woman MP held on the same day was 41,629 votes which caused numerous questions.
Several CEC members said that the committee determined that fresh elections would clear all doubts about the credibility of the electoral exercise and new polling date is expected to be released.
The national party chairman had guided that fresh primaries be conducted in 28 villages but they didn’t happen after Kajwengye boycotted the election on October 6,2020 and another candidate Bakashaba Christopher had lost interest.
Mwesigye was yesterday forwarded to CEC by party electoral commission chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi as the duly elected Nyabushozi NRM MP flag-bearer but his victory was questioned and rejected.
