President Museveni is allowed to come with more than 10 people on nomination day – Simon Byabakama
Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that President Yoweri Museveni will be allowed to come in with a bigger group of people for his nomination next week compared to other candidates.
EC guidelines indicate that each candidate will be escorted by only nine people, with COVID-19 free certificates.
However, Byabakama says President Museveni being the incumbent, will be allowed more company as stipulated by law.
22 candidates presented signatures to support their candidature and the Electoral Commission (EC) has so far verified at least 10 including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement-NRM, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu Bobi Wine of National Unity Platform-NUP, Maj. Gen. (RTD) Mugisha Muntu Gregg of the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT, Lt. Gen. (RTD Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu- independent, among others.
The EC will nominate presidential candidates next week on November 2 and 3, 2020 at Kyambogo university sports grounds Kampala.
President Museveni , Lt. Gen. (RTD) Tumukunde, Maj. Gen. (RTD) Muntu will be nominated on 2nd, Bobi Wine on 3rd, and others. Museveni will be nominated at 10am, Tumukunde at 1pm and Muntu at 3pm.
According to the EC guidelines, candidates should not be escorted by more than ten people (except Museveni) including the aspirant in line with the Ministry of Health guidelines on preventing COVID-19.
