Over 500 Rushenyi Farmers Demand Birunga Dairy UGX 670M
Over 500 farmers from Rushenyi County in Ntungamo district have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni over the failure by Birunga Dairy to pay them UGX 670m for the milk supplied last year.
The farmers are accusing Innocent Bisangwa, the proprietor of Birunga Dairy for frustrating their businesses by failing to pay them.
John Bosco Ruhangasiimwe, one of the petitioners said that they have had a lot of economic hardships and they are worried about their future in handling family needs if they are not be paid.
“We have been struggling for a long to meet our family needs and now that our children are yet to report back to schools, we are so worried on where to get school fees from. The president should come to our rescue as soon as possible if not we are headed for disaster,” he said.
Joseph Kanyesigye Nuunu, another petitioner said that they have opted for presidential intervention following Museveni’s support and passion for farming.
Speaking to Crooze fm, the proprietor of Birunga dairy UGX 670m Mr. Innocent Biswanga he is aware he owns them money but he has not been operating since the month of April 2019 due the closure of borders between Uganda and Rwanda saying that the production in the factory broke down.
Biswanga says he acknowledges the farmers’ demand adding that he is looking for money to re-capitalize the factory to pay them and that they should be patient.
