Over 40 vehicles impounded in Mbarara as Uganda’s COVID-19 deaths hit 81
Mbarara police last night (03/10/2020) impounded 45 motor vehicles for flouting presidential directives of curfew and failure to observe Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the fight against COVID-19.
The motor vehicles that are parked at Mbarara central police station were intercepted at different checkpoints mounted by police on roads leading in and out of Mbarara city along the Mbarara-Masaka highway, Buremba road, Mbarara-Kabale road and Ntare road
This operation was guided by the Mbarara district task force due to the increased laxity in the members of public to observe curfew regulations.
According to the Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, no arrests were made and police await the Mbarara district task force to give a way forward on the matter.
Results from COVID-19 tests done on 3 October 2020 confirm 146 new cases bringing Uganda’s cumulative confirmed cases to 8,808, 4,736 recoveries and 2 new COVID-19 deaths from Kampala and Gulu bring Uganda’s total COVID-19 deaths to 81.
