Opposition rejects amendment Bills
The opposition has disagreed with a number of the critical clauses in the three new Electoral Amendment Bills; the Presidential Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2015; the Parliamentary Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2015; and the Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2015 brought to Parliament by the government.
Recently the Attorney General Fred Ruhindi laid on the floor of Parliament the Presidential Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2015 which seeks to revise the nomination fees payable from Shs 8m to Shs 20m; revise the facilitation provided for a presidential candidate from Shs 20 to 100m; remove the requirement for a candidate to campaign in every district and provide for polling to close at 4.00pm on polling day.
The opposition also propose that Ugandans living in Diaspora be facilitated to participate in the national elections since they contribute to the national economy.
