Nigerian National Charged And Remanded To Prison Over Cocaine Drug Dealing
A Nigerian National Madu Chima who was arrested with 320grammes of Cocaine valued at 244.4mshs, by URA Officials last week has been arraigned before the Anticorruption court and remanded to Ssentema Government Prison.
Chima together with a Ugandan Security Guard with Pinnacle Security Ltd, Ibanda Abubakali; faced separate charges that include acquiring prohibited goods, trafficking a narcotic drug, importing prohibited goods and Conspiracy to contravene provisions of the East African Community Customs Management Act.
They appeared before Grade One Magistrate Abert Asiimwe who sent them to Ssentema Government Prison until 25th/August/2020 as investigations into their case continue.
Court heard that on 6th/August/2020 at Makindye in Kampala, Madu Chima received a Cocaine Package from Ibanda Abubakali that was shipped by DHL Airway bill from Columbia via United States of America, which package he knew or ought to have reasonably known to be prohibited.
The two were arrested after Ibanda received a call from DHL to pick the consignment but whose tracking number he didn’t know and had to get it from his friend ‘John’ who in this case is Madu Chima and as Ibanda was handing it over to Chima they were arrested.
However both Ibanda and Chima Madu deny knowledge of the content they received and Chima further claims he was receiving the said package on behalf of his Nigerian friend a one Ozo who failed to come for it due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Ibanda got to know Chima from Post Office where he works as a Security Guard.
