Nawangwe appears before education Committee
Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe meets with Members of Parliament on the Education Committee, to explain on the ongoing impasse at Uganda’s oldest institution, that has seen students miss lectures for four weeks now.
Nawangwe appears after rejecting several summons from the committee.
The impasse at the university directive follow the suspension of the chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association (Muasa), Dr. Deus Kamunyu, Dr. Bennet Magara, the chairperson of Makerere Administrative Staff Association (MASA), and his general secretary, Joseph Kalema, for alleged indiscipline and inciting fellow staff.
Yesterday, Prof Nawangwe suspended guild elections until further notice, in amove he said is aimed at providing a conducive environment to facilitate the process of returning the University to full normalcy.
