Museveni stops licensing of gambling and gaming companies
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the government to stop licensing new gambling and gaming companies.
The directive was revealed yesterday by the State Minister of Finance for Planning, David Bahati while representing the President as the guest
of honor during the closure of the 2019 Brethren Conference of the
Diocese of Kigezi at Rugarama Convention grounds in Kabale
The four days conference which started on Thursday is under the theme: “Live a life worthy of the lord,” derived from Colossians 1:10. The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi Rt. Rev George Bagamuhunda was also cerebrating five years of service.
President Museveni has also directed that no more renewing of licenses for already existing gambling and gaming companies. According to Bahati, the President Museveni’s directive follows concerns especially from religious leaders on how gambling and betting has affected minors under the age of 18.
Museveni also says that the government is set to take charge of gaming and gambling adding that it will be easy to regulate and to stop minors from participating.
