Mulore market operating without toilet
Vendors operating in Mulore market in Rubanda town council along the
Kabale-Kisoro highway are at the risk of catching diseases due to lack of toilet and other cases of poor hygiene.
The daily market attracts vendors who sell mainly Irish potatoes,
produce, vegetables and other foodstuffs, hosts hundreds of vendors
from different parts of Rubanda district and neighboring areas.
The market was early last month relocated from Mulore trading centre
to Mulore play ground near Rubanda town council offices in order to
observe social distancing while conducting their business.
Haliet Twinomujuni and Allen Kyibahigyire, all vendors in the market
said that most of the traders use the bushes around the market to
answer nature’s call while others beg people staying in the
neighborhood. They said that they are living under fear of a cholera
outbreak due to poor human waste disposal.
The Rubanda town Council Chairperson Norman Tushabe refutes the claims
of the vendors saying that there is a three stance latrine at Rubanda
town Council. He however said that the existing toilet is not enough
compared to the numbers of vendors and they are planning to construct
a new one in the financial year 2020/2021.
