Mob Justice threatens Kigezi sub-region ,another suspected thief lynched.
A man who was suspected to be a thief has been lynched in Kanungu town
Council in Kanungu District.
The deceased has been identified as a 28-year old Felex Amutusimire, a
resident of Kyamukombe village, Kinaba Sub County in Kanungu District.
The incident happened yesterday Tuesday 31 December 2019 morning at around 3:00 am at Kicwamba cell,
Northern Ward, Kanungu town Council in Kanungu District when
Amutusimire stormed the residence of Ruth Karungi.
Karungi made alarm that attracted the residential night watchman
identified as Francis Byaruhanga, but when he tried to arrest
Amutusimire who was armed with a panga, he cut him the palm of the
left arm and was rushed to Rugyeyo Community Hospital where he is
Mob later ascended on Amutusimire and was beaten until he was saved by
police officers from Kanungu police station who rushed him to Katate
health center IV where he died moments later. The Kigezi Regional
Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirms the incident saying that
postmortem on Amutusimire’s body was done and handed over to the
relatives for burial.
Maate said that no suspect has been arrested in the mob. He adds that
the matter has been registered at Kanungu CRB 739/2019 as
investigations in the matter continue.
