Minister Byabagambi pinned for threatening to close plastic recycling industries
The minister of Karamoja Affairs Eng. John Byabagambi yesterday faced a rough time before the Natural resources committee over his statement threatening to close plastic recycling industries.
Appearing before the committee chaired by Kiboga East Mp Keefa Kiwanuka, members of the Uganda plastic manufacturers and recyclers Association accused the minister of telling them that their factories would be closed despite them citing to him the National Environment Act 2019 in which they operate.
The manufacturers of recycled plastics petitioned parliament seeking clarification on the law which allowed them to produce recycled materials for packing but is being frustrated by threats from minister Byabagambi.
The executive director Uganda plastic manufacturers and recyclers Association Moses Brown Ategeka pinned Byabagambi face to face before the committee on his negative intent on the plastic recycling.
